Sunscreech basked in the morning sun's rays as he waited for his new apprentice, Gingerpaw, to show up. Today was her first day as an apprentice and his first day as a mentor. From what hed seen, Gingerpaw was a moody, almost cruelly cold cat. This did not bother Sunscreech taht much, for he didn't care what she said to him. There were only a few things that could set him off but she was too young to remember any of his past fights he'd had. He wasn't lazy, but he found himself oping she'd behave for him. He had little patience for a bratty little she-cat, and he didn't want to snap at her.

Gingerpaw entered the clearing late, as usual. She padded up to her mentor nochalontly, and s,iled poisonously at him. "I see no point in this, I'm smarter than half or the warriors, you being one of them." She laughed, though deep down she was smarter than most of the warriors.

Sunscreech stood up. "Then listen to me so this can pass more quickly," he said emotionlessly. "You may be smarter than most of the...interesting warriors of our clan, but that doesn't mean you use it correctly." He started walking off into a shadier area of the clearing. "Show me what you can do. Since you think yourself so much better than any cat of the clan, I'd like to see your abilities. Go catch the clan some prey; two birds and two of whatever else you can find. We're starting..." he looked at the sky, "...now. Go." Sunscreech leapt onto a tree and clawed his way up. "I'll be monitoring you, Gingerpaw."

Gingerpaw shrugged. "Sure, this'll be easy, but I can't do it with you breathing down my neck. Give me my distance, and don't make any noise." She mewed, and spotted a mouse a while aways, stalking it, she leapt and easily killed it, and set it down near the tree where she knew Sunscreech sat. "See, I told you, I'm a better apprentice than you warriors."

Sunscreech ignored her. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get back to work, Gingerpaw. Real warriors work without bragging."

"Shut up, mouse brain!" She scowled at the warrior before talking off. Gingerpaw spotted a large magpie swerving through the air. She kept low, and leapt at the creature, and brung it down in mid-flight. She moved back to the tree, and set it down beside the mouse. She continued to catch prey until she had caught a chaffinch, a vole, and a shrew for fun. "Are you happy now?" She asked, rolling her eyes.

"Who said I wasn't?" He asked, giving her a cheeky smile. "Good job; you are better than most warriors." He thought for a minute. Handling this she-cat would be difficult. He'd have to experiment on how she reacted to the ways he responded to her. "Is there anything you're not quite sure of or anything you'd like to know more about?" He figured he already knew the answer. No doubt she'd say something along the lines of 'I'm the best; I don't need to know anything else.' He sighed and shook his head. Gingerpaw would be a great cat if she'd just be a little less cold and distant. But, as Sunscreech himself knew first hand, the past of a cat could change them forever. Something really bad must've happened to make her the way she was now.

"No, really? It took you that long to figure it out?" She mewed, snarling at her mentor. "And Starclan knows that I don't need any more training! I've just waisted a quarter of my time today on you. I don't understand why I'm not already a warrior, deputy, or even the leader!" She hissed at the warrior.

Sunscreech shrugged. "Maybe becuase you have no respect or manners whatsoever and still act like a spoiled rotten brat?" He tried. "You must understand, Gingerpaw," Sunscreech changed his tone into a consoling one, "That I don't want to deal with an arrogant apprentice. But, in order for me to act like the good warrior I am, I must take up the duties given to me by my superiors. You will do the same," he told her gruffly. "Now shut up and start acting your age!" He snapped. It'd been a while since he'd gotten this riled up; and he was actually enjoying it. Gingerpaw brought out the worst of him, apparently.
OOC: Hope that wasn't too harsh.... *winces*

OOC: Not at all. Gingerpaw has some retorts up her sleeve.
BIC: Gingerpaw just laughed at his anger. "I'll start acting my age when you start acting yours. I find it amusing that you feel you can order me around. You'll need some training. You see, I've shooken off two mentors already, I can do the same to you." She mewed, a poisonous smile playing across her shockingly white maw.

OOC: Good! Some people get mad when I act like that, but it's RPing, you know?
IC: Sunscreech looked at her blankly. This cat was something strange. He walked towards her slowly, searching her eyes for any emotion. There was hurt and pain, maybe betrayal? She didn't trust anyone. By the time he finished his search, he was right in front of her. Sunscreech sighed and shut his eyes, turning his head away from her. "What happened to you, Gingerpaw?" He mewed calmly. "What has made you so angry? You're too talented to be this way. You have so much to offer, but you're not using it right." Sunscreech looked back up at her. "What happened to you?" He figured she wouldn't say anything, but he was set on figuring out her past, and he'd stop at nothing.
OOC: Sunscreech can crack her shell! I know he can! XP

"None of your business. And even if it were, I wouldn't tell you. You have no right to get into my private past, and you're lucky I didn't claw your eyes out just a second ago, foxdung." She spat, turning her back on her mentor. A small tear fell down her face, but it faded into her fur quickly, with no sign it had ever been there.

Sunscreech sighed. He was a persistant cat. "Whatever you say, Gingerpaw," he said softly. "I hope that you become comfortable with yourself," he added quietly.

Gingerpaw turned, her eyes sparkling in tears. Nobody had ever seen the she-cat cry. Gingerpaw padded forward, dipped her head in respect, a thing she had never done before, and sat down in front of her mentor, about to pour her heart out. "You know I came into the clan as a loner. My mother died when I was young, and my father killed himself. My only brother, Drainingkit, died from a badger attack. I barely got away. My last memory of my brother was him screaming for me to run, save myself...Maybe if I had stayed, and hadn't ran like a coward, Drainingkit might still be alive." She mewed, tears falling silently down her face.

Sunscreech was shocked. She opened up to him? It was...amazing, to say the least. He leaned forward more to look into her eyes. "Gingerpaw... Drainingkit's death was not your fault." It was really the only thing he could say to console her; her mother had died of natural causes he assumed, and her father didn't seem like a loving fellow... He didn't know much at all yet, though. She was still crying and Sunscreech moved to sit beside her. "You can tell me anything, Gingerpaw. I'm your mentor," he smiled warmly at her. "And we're well on our way to being friends. I won't think any differently of you; just tell me anything you want or need to."

"It was my fault. I could have stayed. I could have avenged my brothers death...But I just kept running. That's why I became this way, because of him. I promised never to run away from a challenge again." She mewed feircly.

Sunscreech nodded. "It was brave, what your brother did. He died like a warrior would." He fixed his apprentice with an intense stare. "You couldn't have stopped that badger by yourself, you would've died too. Your brother would've wanted you to live, Gingerpaw. And you don't have to be cold and distant to perform your goal. No one ever said that cats like you who have goals can't have help. Any cat in the clan would be happy to help you if you'd just open up a bit more. I don't know how hard it is for you," he winced; he knew that his family hated him, "but I do know that you will find life a lot better if you open up."

"Mousedung." She spat, though a smile curled on her maw. "If you tell anyone anything I just told you, I'll claw your ears off." She mewed threatningly, but there was a tad of amusment in her voice.

Sunscreech smirked. "As you wish, your highness," he mocked. Prodding her side with a forepaw, he stood up. "Ready for some real training?" He asked, eyes gleaming happily. He got to his apprentice, and she was a rather nice cat.

Gingerpaw returned the smile, then nodded. "Now that I showed you that I'm better than you (I almost wrote 'Now that I showed you I pwn XD), what shall we do?" She asked, laughing.
